SAKURA

A tiny ramen shop in downtown Playa where intense broths, pork bone broth (tonkotsu), karaage, and gyozas bring the character of a small Japanese kitchen closer.

Sakura Ramen concentrates almost all of its identity in something apparently simple and quite difficult to do well: a good bowl of ramen. The tonkotsu is one of its main protagonists, built around a deep broth accompanied by noodles and Japanese toppings. Karaage, gyozas, takoyaki and other preparations complete a compact menu devoted to the comforting cuisine of Japan. The space is tiny and the kitchen remains visible, making waiting, watching the preparation and finally receiving the bowl all part of the natural experience. Its popularity can generate a wait precisely because there are very few places. Sakura does not try to be sophisticated. It is much more like that small restaurant you expect to find hidden in a Japanese street and which, by some favorable anomaly of the universe, ended up in Playa del Carmen.
